This stance was conveyed in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of Thursday's meeting in Rabat, attended by the Board of the House of Councillors, chaired by Mohamed Ould Errachid, and the Executive Board of Parlatino, chaired by Rolando González Patricio.

The agreement between the two parties reflects the strategic significance of South-South cooperation and global grassroots mobilization, as well as the need to strengthen effective parliamentary and civil diplomacy.

The parties underlined their shared will to strengthen channels of communication and cooperation on issues of common interest, and to coordinate their actions in international fora, on the basis of understanding, agreement and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states and observer states to the Parlatino.

The statement notes that since 1996, the Moroccan Parliament has become the first African and Arab parliament to obtain observer member status with the Parlatino.

In 2018, a memorandum of understanding was signed in Rabat between the two parliaments, officially designating the Kingdom as a permanent observer member of Parlatino.
