Speaking at the opening of the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, Akhannouch emphasized that Morocco has implemented a series of laws, projects, and initiatives as part of its strategic road safety management.
Key measures include the adoption of a new traffic code, automated traffic violation monitoring, enhanced vehicle inspection, driver training programs and improved road infrastructure.
Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom is strengthening its infrastructure projects in preparation for major events such as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, he continued.
These efforts are supported by ambitious strategies grounded in the "Safe System" approach, which positions "people and safety" as the core pillars of a secure and sustainable mobility system.
He argued that while road accidents remain a global issue, their consequences are more severe and deadly in developing countries, particularly in Africa, which accounts for about 19% of the world's total fatalities.
In this regard, Morocco strives to support African countries in enhancing their road safety indicators, with the aim of accelerating the development pace, he noted.
The government official expressed Morocco's readiness to share its experience in institutional road safety management, the development of transportation and mobility systems as well as the integration of modern technologies, while aligning with digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
He also underscored that addressing road safety challenges requires enhanced coordination, strengthened international cooperation and the sharing of best practices on effective strategies, while leveraging the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a driving force to enhance road safety.
The head of government expressed hope that the Marrakech Declaration would be a step forward to the adoption of innovative measures and ambitious initiatives to tackle current and future challenges in improving road safety globally.
