Under the theme "Promoting a Parliamentary Network for a Stable, Integrated, and Prosperous Atlantic Africa," the meeting aims to strengthen interparliamentary dialogue in Atlantic Africa, support the Atlantic African States Process (AASP), and establish a sustainable parliamentary network for collaboration among member states.
It also seeks to promote parliamentary coordination around common challenges related to sustainable resource management, maritime security, investment, and regional integration.
The meeting also aims to encourage Parliaments to position themselves as a force for concrete proposals to support the implementation of the commitments made in the AASP declarations.
According to the organizers, the meeting will also adopt a joint parliamentary declaration committing to AASP objectives, establish an African Atlantic parliamentary network for ongoing follow-up of regional projects, and develop concrete recommendations to enhance resource management and attract strategic investments.
It aims not only to strengthen Atlantic Africa as an integrated geopolitical space but also emphasizes improved coordination between parliaments, governments, and regional institutions to reinforce parliaments' role as key players in the region's stability and development.
The meeting of the Speakers of Parliaments of African countries is part of the AASP launched on June 8, 2022, in Rabat, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This initiative is a significant effort to transform the African Atlantic coast into a space of human synergies, economic complementarity, and international influence.
This process aims to promote political and security dialogue, optimize sustainable management of shared resources, attract strategic investments, and strengthen maritime and energy connectivity.
In this respect, His Majesty King Mohammed VI announced, in November 2023, the Atlantic Initiative to enable Atlantic Ocean access for the Sahel States, based on a win-win partnership.
The meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of African countries aligns with this vision and provides a platform for dialogue and concerted action among the representatives of the African populations in this unique geopolitical space.
