The Moroccan delegation also reiterated the Kingdom's support for the brotherly Palestinian people in recovering their legitimate rights and establishing their independent and sovereign state within the 1967 borders, with East Al-Quds as its capital, stressing that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian territories and the unified Palestinian state.
Welcoming the agreement leading to the ceasefire between all Palestinian and Israeli parties, Morocco hailed the progress made towards halting hostilities and attacks on civilians.
The Middle East region, and more particularly the Palestinian territories, have recently experienced tragic situations, with thousands of deaths and injuries among civilians, including children and women, recalled the Moroccan delegation, noting that this is a flagrant violation of international conventions guaranteeing legal protection for these vulnerable categories.
The Moroccan delegation also deplored the attacks targeting civilian infrastructures and the breaches of the inviolability of hospitals, stressing that this situation calls for the parties concerned to be questioned about their respect for human rights and the laws governing armed conflicts.
The ceasefire agreement marks an important step towards laying the foundations for stability and peace in the region as a whole, and in the Palestinian territories in particular, in view of the opportunities it offers the parties concerned for strengthening responsible dialogue, consecrating reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip, and improving living conditions in the Palestinian territories, provided that the clauses of this agreement are respected, the same source followed.
In this respect, the Moroccan delegation recalled that, in a message addressed, on November 26, 2024 to the Chairman of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Cheikh Niang, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, stated that the Kingdom of Morocco “will keep up its unstinting, customary efforts and use its influence as well as its special relationship with the parties concerned and with the influential international powers to bring about conditions conducive to a return to the negotiating table. That is the only way to put a final end to the conflict and achieve security and stability in the Middle East region.”
On this basis, the Kingdom of Morocco urges the parties to give peace a chance and to demonstrate a sincere and constructive commitment, far from any conjunctural or opportunistic considerations, in the hope of achieving stability in the region, the same source maintained, adding that in view of the difficult conditions undergone by the Palestinian people, the Kingdom of Morocco calls for the ceasefire agreement to be respected, as well as the protection of civilians and an end to attacks targeting them throughout the Palestinian territories.
Morocco is also calling for all crossing points to be opened and for humanitarian, medical and food aid to be delivered in sufficient quantities, which would guarantee an improvement in the living conditions of Palestinian civilians, the Moroccan delegation insisted, adding that it was also a question of guaranteeing the safe and smooth return of exiles and displaced persons, and of resuming direct negotiations as a first step towards achieving a lasting peace process in the region.
In keeping with the Kingdom's firm stance on the Palestinian cause, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), attached great importance to the delivery of medical and humanitarian aid at a time when the Gaza Strip was suffering from a shortage of foodstuffs and medical equipment, the same source pointed out.
The Moroccan delegation recalled that, on High Royal Instructions, Morocco had sent humanitarian aid on three occasions, including two by land via the Karam Abou Salem crossing, which was a first since the start of the military escalation, adding that this aid consisted of equipment to treat burns and deal with surgical and traumatological emergencies, as well as essential medicines.
Morocco reiterates its determination to work with its partners to breathe new life into the negotiations between the two parties, in the interests of consolidating peace in the region and in the Palestinian territories in particular, the same source concluded.
